Cinelli Concept Store Opens in Vancouver

Add another attraction to the already plentiful list of things to see and do in Vancouver. Here are spy shots from the new Cinelli Concept Store opening tomorrow. Strada Cycles is located at 162 Powell Street in the downtown area.

Along with Cinelli bikes and framesets, Strada offers Assos clothing, Uvex Helmets, and American Classic wheels. Congratulations guys, the store looks amazing!

Ride the Rockies

Each year during Ride The Rockies, numerous manufacturers travel with the tour demo-ing their products. Participants can test-ride products ranging from Continental tires to DT-Swiss wheels. This year Cinelli is proud to join the 6 day, 412 mile event.

Oh... and enter the 3rd Annual RTR Silent Auction, and you could be the lucky one to take home a sweet Cinelli Willin' SL frameset (pictured below). Proceeds from the auction go to support programs sponsored by Denver Post's community outreach.

BIKERUMOR: New Saetta 'Rocks it Hard'

Available in two models, the higher end Saetta Sprint and the regular Saetta (tested), they’re meant to be a mid-level, full carbon road bike for any type of riding. Of course, being Italian and being a Cinelli, they’re completely race worthy, and based on my time with it, the Saetta would hold its own on any club ride.

Cinelli Now Offering Complete Bikes via Total Choice

For the first time in over a decade Cinelli framesets are once again being offered as complete bikes to US customers. The change signals another bellwether for the 60 year old Italian manufacturer - a brand that had all but vanished from the US market until just a few years ago.

The push to re-invigorate Cinelli as a full line bike company comes from its US distributor BTI which just debuted its Total Choice engine - an online platform for ordering full custom bikes. BTI launched Total Choice with exclusive mountain brand Commencal last month. Cinelli now becomes the standard bearer for the road side of the house.

Like chocolate and peanut butter .. or in this case pasta al dente and spicy meatballs, users can pair a Total Choice-enabled Cinelli bike with premium drivetrain components from Campagnolo, SRAM or Shimano. From there the streamlined interface makes it easy to branch out and add components from FSA, DT-Swiss, Ritchey and other manufacturers.

Selection is at the heart of the Total Choice system, which makes available components and accessories from 19 different road manufacturers. Rouleur Magazine Exclusive

This is a great read that touches on the rise and fall of steel bike production plus the decades long rivalry between Columbus and Reynolds tubing, with some terrific photography from inside the Columbus plant.

Cinelli Re-issues Classic Bar Plugs

Spring on the way and Cinelli is making preparations to re-issue its classic “Cinelli Milano” bar plugs; this time anodized in four new pop colours: silver, blue, gold, red and purple. Cinelli Mystic Rats Wins Best City Bike Award

We broke the news on Friday that Cinelli Mystic Rats complete bikes had arrived in the US. Today we've been informed that the beautiful all-white fixie/singlespeed just won 'Best City Bike' in a poll of readers of Italian biking mag Ciclismo. Gruppo Srl President Antonio Columbo was on hand last friday to receive the award:

More news from the developing Cinelli Mystic Rats/Copenhagen story. Cinelli has donated an additional quantity of pre-release bootleg bikes to be outfitted with theCopenhagen Wheel for next week's climate summit. This email is from Cinelli President Antonio Colombo:

Cinelli is very pleased to announce that its bicycles will be present at the most important environmental conference of the decade (in Copenhagen) next week.On the 15th of December the world will see the unveiling of a fleet of mysteriously elaborated Bootleg Mystic Rats at the Copenhagen Climate Summit for Mayors.

The Mystic has been chosen to showcase a pioneering new technology created by SENSEable City Lab MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) for the The Kobenhavns Kommune, funded through the Italian Ministry for the Environment with technical support by Ducati Energia.

This technology will take the form of an innovative hybrid-electric bicycle wheel that can be easily retrofitted into a bike and which can sense and map real-time environmental conditions in cities.

We are pleased to have been able to offer our support to such an exciting and important cycling initiative which we hope can help push cycling into a new era of widespread urban use. We will be able to give more information from the 15th.

Cinelli-Powered Green Machine

Cinelli-USA's Ben Coffey fielded an interesting call from MIT's SENSEable City Lab this week. The project team contacted Cinelli looking for a bike to use as proof-of-concept for a new product to be unveiled at the upcoming UN Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen. The bike they chose was the Cinelli Mystic Rats Bootleg (pictured above). The Mystic Rats is a new production bike aimed at the US market for early 2010. There is only one of these bikes in the US at the moment and it's a beaut, so it was with some reluctance that we agreed to part with it. But, hey, this is about saving the planet.

The Copenhagen Wheel is the culmination of a three year partnership between MIT and the city of Copenhagen. The components include an open source electric bicycle wheel that can be easily retrofitted into any regular bicycle plus a host of sensors which are powered by the wheel. These sensors provide data for a variety of applications like location awareness, theft prevention and real world social networking.

Can an affordable, easily to retrofit motor-assisted wheel that can harness power of the 'net make bicycling as über cool and all-pervasive as the web itself? Will everyone in the green future be riding white Cinelli bikes? We'll wait to find out - and let you know as the story unfolds. The UN Summit starts on December 7.
